National Police Misconduct Newsfeed Daily Recap 03-23-17

Here are the nine reports of police misconduct tracked for Thursday, March 23, 2017:

  • Lorain, Ohio: An officer was arrested for domestic violence for allegedly putting his wife in a chokehold.
  • Waterloo, Iowa: An officer was arrested for OWI after off-duty crash.
  • Normangee, Texas: The chief was arrested at his home after an armed standoff with police. Shots were fired at some point but there were no injuries.
  • Princeton, Indiana: An officer was arrested for drunk driving while he was off duty.
  • Update: Port Arthur, Texas (First reported 02-27-17): An officer, the second of three who were suspended during a retaliation investigation, was reinstated without any sanction. The first officer was demoted.
  • Update: Walker, Louisiana (First reported 03-16-17): An officer who was suspended for three days for placing a noose in the squad room to be found by black officers has resigned. The matter has been turned over to another department to investigate possible criminal charges.
  • Update: Tampa, Florida (First reported 04-08-15): A judge rejected a plea deal for a now-former detective who is charged for cashing fraudulent tax checks. The judge said that the deal didn’t reflect the seriousness of the charges against him.
  • Update: Tukwila, Washington (First reported 07-27-15): A now-former officer was sentenced to nine months for pepper-spraying a handcuffed man while he was in the hospital.
  • Update: Chicago, Illinois: The officer charged with murdering Laquan McDonald had 16 counts added to his original charges. All 16 counts were for aggravated battery with a firearm. He is due in court again April 20.
