National Police Misconduct Newsfeed Daily Recap 4/4/17

Here are the six reports of police misconduct tracked for Tuesday, April 4, 2017:

  • San Francisco, California: An officer was fired after sending an anti-Muslim text message.
  • Lamar, South Carolina: An officer was fired after he was arrested for DUI and open container violation while on duty and in his patrol car.
  • Update: San Bernardino County, California (First reported 4/10/15): Two deputies pled no contest to lesser charges for beating a man on live television after a chase on a horse. The County previously settled a lawsuit in the case for $650,000.
  • Update: Iberia Parish, Louisiana (First reported 2/29/16): The sheriff’s department faces two civil suits alleging abuse following the guilty pleas and sentencing of several deputies for jailhouse beatings and other misconduct. The sheriff was acquitted in his criminal trial, during which his former deputies testified against him.
  • Miami-Dade, Florida: An officer was arrested after putting his wife in the hospital with serious injuries after an off-duty fight
  • Woonsocket, Rhode Island: An officer was arrested for assaulting a student while volunteering at high school. He was already on suspension at the time of the incident.
