National Police Misconduct Newsfeed Daily Recap 02-27-17

Here are the nine reports of police misconduct tracked for Monday, February 27, 2017:

  • Wayne County, New York: A deputy was fired and charged with sexual abuse and official misconduct.
  • Port Arthur, Texas: Three officers were placed on leave and two resigned after a woman alleged retaliation and other abuse. 
  • Elbert County, County: A deputy was arrested and is now wanted for a poaching incident in Georgia. He is no longer with the department.
  • Orange County, California: A now-former deputy was sentenced to six months in jail, three years of probation, and ordered to pay more than $35,000 in restitution and fines for insurance fraud.
  • Baton Rouge, Louisiana: An officer was suspended for five days for fatally shooting a dog.
  • Detroit, Michigan: An officer is facing federal child pornography possession charges.
  • Update: Grand Rapids, Michigan (First reported 01-30-17): The second of three officers recommended to be terminated after improperly aiding a prosecutor after his wrong-way DUI crash has been suspended. His suspension is for 160 days, more than five times the length of the first officer’s punishment. In addition, he was demoted. The third officer involved will have the administrative hearing regarding his employment March 7.
  • Update: Overland Park, Kansas (First reported 07-12-16): A now-former officer pled guilty to assault, obstruction, and impersonation for a making a threat on a woman’s Facebook page.
  • Update: Detroit, Michigan (First reported 08-30-16): An officer pled guilty to attempted assault for a serious auto crash that happened while she was off duty.
